According to local media reports, Turkey will initiate 74 small tenders for solar Energy Solar System projects in its Renewable Energy Area (YEKA) in the next two months.
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Fatih Donmez, stated that these tenders are aimed at attracting offers from small and medium enterprises, especially in the solar energy industry.
Donmez said that public procurement will cover photovoltaic (PV) power plants with a total installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts and spread across 36 regions of the country. Tendering will be an important factor in changing the investment culture and investor image.
It is reported that the YEKA tender is part of Turkey’s goal of meeting 65% of its domestic and renewable energy demand by 2023.
Data show that the country’s installed solar capacity has increased from 40 MW in 2014 to the current 6,630 MW. Solar energy now accounts for 7% of total domestic installed capacity and 4% of power generation.
