Spanish multinational utility company Iberdrola has proposed to the Ministry of Ecology Transformation to build a 590 MW largest solar power plant station Francisco Pizarro.

If approved, the Francisco Pizarro project will be developed in Extremadura, cost more than 300 million Euros, and will employ up to 1,000 people during construction.

The solar power plant is expected to be operational by 2022, providing electricity to more than 375,000 people and reducing carbon emissions by 245,000 tons per year.

The system will surpass the Núñezde Balboa photovoltaic power plant built by Iberdrola in Usagre (Badajos) with a power of 500 MW, which is by far the largest photovoltaic power plant in Europe.

The project is part of a utility plan that strengthens its clean energy generation by installing an additional 10,000MW and creating 20,000 jobs by 2030.

Iberdrola currently has more than 2,000MW of renewable energy facilities under construction in Spain.

The utility is Spain's largest wind energy producer with an installed capacity of 5,770 MW, while its total renewable energy installed capacity is 15,790 MW, including wind and hydropower. The company has nearly 30,000 MW of installed capacity worldwide.
