Poland launches 2022-2027 renewable energy auction

    A few days ago, the Polish Council of Ministers released a new auction plan for renewable Mono Solar Panel energy projects. The government said it would allocate around 13GW of renewable energy in its procurement campaign from 2022-2027.

    It is reported that about 4.5GW of capacity will be allocated to photovoltaic power plants above 1MW, and 4.5GW will be used for photovoltaic power plants below 1MW. The auction also includes 3GW of onshore wind, 180MW of hydro, 300MW of agricultural biogas and 660MW of landfill gas.

    In an auction held this year, the Polish government hopes to award 3,408MWh of contracts with a budget of $2.9 billion. The government will also auction 89.9 million MWh in 2023 with a budget of 40.78 billion, and 44.58 million MWh in 2024 with a budget of 17 billion.

    The Polish government hopes to procure 75.9 million MWh of renewable energy in the 2025 auction and 76 million MWh of renewable energy in 2026, with budgets of PLN 31 billion and PLN 24.8 billion, respectively.

    The government said the renewable energy auctions held so far will deploy about 11.5GW of new generation capacity. In the most recent auction held in December, the Polish Energy Regulatory Authority allocated around 870MW of PV capacity.

    According to a new report from the Institute of Renewable Energy (IEO), Poland's installed solar capacity surpassed 10GW in May and is expected to reach 12GW by the end of the year. So far this year, Poland has installed around 3.3GW of PV systems. According to the IEO report, the installed PV capacity in Poland will reach 30GW by the end of 2030.
