The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) said: “A substantial expansion of U.S. photovoltaic manufacturing could alleviate global supply chain challenges and provide substantial benefits to the climate as well as U.S. workers, employers, and the economy.” It concluded in a study that U.S. PV manufacturing Capacity may reach 10 GW in two years, 15 GW in three years, 25 GW in five years, and is expected to reach 50 GW of annual production.

According to foreign media reports, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) recently released a roadmap for enabling domestic supply chains in the United States, "Promoting U.S. Solar Manufacturing," which explores how the United States can move from its current state of limited production to mature, for the The domestic energy supply chain that powers the economy.

At present, the United States has the ability to produce metallurgical grade silicon, polysilicon, steel, aluminum, resin, shelves and brackets and other materials. However, there are significant gaps in the supply chain. The U.S. currently has no domestic solar ingot, wafer or cell manufacturing capacity and limited capacity to produce solar modules, inverters and trackers, SEIA said. Therefore, these segments must be targeted at 50 GW.
