Automotive glass manufacturer Asahi India Glass has partnered with the Ahmedabad-based Vishakha Group to build the country’s largest solar glass factory in Mundra, Gujarat, India. This new Batteries For Off Grid Solar System project will initially produce up to 3GW of solar energy per year. grass.
The plant is expected to be put into production in the next 18-24 months, and Asahi India Glass will hold a minority stake in it.
Vishakha Group is one of the largest flexible polymer packaging manufacturers in India. It also produces other key components in the entire solar panel value chain, including solar backsheets, EVA encapsulation panels, and solar panel aluminum frames. Following Gold Plus Glass headquartered in New Delhi, Asahi India Glass has become the second company to enter the field of solar glass manufacturing this year. Currently, Borosil Renewables is the only solar glass manufacturer in the country. It has a factory in Brochi, Gujarat, which can meet about 40% of India's solar glass demand. India relies on imports to meet the demand balance.
With the increase in sales, Borosil Renewables plans to add a third solar glass production line and processing facilities with a daily output of 500 tons, expanding the production capacity from 450 tons to 950 tons per day. At the time when the company announced an increase in production capacity, the surge in solar installations in India has boosted the market's demand for solar panels and solar glass.
As part of its commitment to fulfilling the Paris Climate Agreement, India has now initiated the ambitious goal of achieving 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
Jigish Doshi, Chairman of Vishakha Group, said: “India is one of the few countries that has accelerated global climate change commitments. We intend to do our part to achieve renewable energy goals.”
