Spain’s Ministry of Ecological Transition and Population Challenges (Miteco) announced that it will hold an auction on January 26 to allocate 3 GW of Batteries For Solar Panels renewable energy power generation.

Interested developers must submit bids from December 15th.

Solar Panels For Houses

Among the 3 gigawatts of power generation that the Spanish government hopes to allocate, 1 gigawatt will be used for large-scale photovoltaic power plants, 1 gigawatt will be used for onshore wind power projects, and 1 gigawatt will be used for renewable energy storage projects without technical restrictions. . The selected photovoltaic projects will sign a 12-year power purchase agreement.

Miteco also stipulates that auction participants are obliged to submit a strategic plan to estimate the impact on local employment and the opportunities provided for local, regional and national industrial value chains. At the same time, it is also necessary to consider the impact on the circular economy, including the disposal of equipment at the end of its service life, and the analysis of the carbon footprint of the facility during its service life.

Solar Power Panel

According to the latest statistics from Spanish grid operator Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the country’s cumulative solar power generation last year reached 8.7 GW. According to REE, Spain added 3.975 gigawatts of solar power last year, which is much higher than the previous year's 261.7 megawatts of grid-connected power generation, or 135 megawatts of installed capacity in 2017.

Most of the new solar power generated last year came from projects selected at national auctions. In this auction, solar was the only winner, obtaining approximately 3.9 GW of power generation. Unlike the 3 GW renewable energy auction held in May 2017, which established rules that are not conducive to photovoltaic power generation to ensure that wind energy has the upper hand in the technology bidding, this auction will not impose any interference on solar power plants .
