The Swedish government has announced that it will exempt all photovoltaic systems below 500 kV from taxes on electricity generated by home solar power renewable energy generators. The current system specification limit is 255 kilowatts.

The Swedish Photovoltaic Association Svensk Solergy stated in a statement on its website: “The new 500 kV limit means that the installation will be larger and have better economies of scale. Of course we will continue to strive to completely eliminate this limit. In addition, the government announced that the rooftop photovoltaic subsidy program originally scheduled to be terminated this year will continue to be implemented in 2021, but only for municipalities and enterprises, with a budget limit of 260 million Swedish kronor (29.6 million US dollars).

In comparison, the government allocated up to 1.2 billion Swedish kronor for the plan in 2020.

The Swedish authorities stated that the plan will now cover 10% of the cost of purchasing and installing photovoltaic systems, compared with 20% last year.

The Swedish Energy Agency has so far invested more than 3.4 billion Swedish kronor in this multi-year plan. According to data from the Swedish Energy Agency, the country’s operating photovoltaic capacity increased from 411 MW at the end of 2018 to 698 MW at the end of 2019. The agency revealed in March that solar power generation is expected to surge from 2018 to 2022, and wind power generation is expected to increase.
