Japan will increase the proportion of renewable energy power generation by 2030
The Japanese government officially released the sixth edition of the Energy Basic Plan on the 22nd, and for the first time proposed the "top priority" for the development of renewable Solar Electricity For Homes energy, and increased the proportion of renewable energy power generation in 2030 from 22% to 24% to 36% to 38%. %.
In 2019, in Japan's electricity production structure, renewable energy power generation accounted for about 18%. The aforementioned new version of the plan means that by 2030, the proportion of renewable energy power generation in Japan will be approximately twice that of 2019.
Compared with Japan's fifth edition of the basic energy plan released in 2018, the new plan does not propose the addition of nuclear power plants. The target for the proportion of nuclear power in the plan has not changed. Nuclear power will still maintain a proportion of 20% to 22% by 2030. Before the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, Japan's nuclear power generation accounted for about one-third. In recent years, the proportion of nuclear power in Japan has fallen sharply, and in 2019 the proportion was about 6%.
Previously, the fifth edition of the Energy Basic Plan set a target for fossil energy power generation to account for 56% by 2030, mainly including natural gas power generation accounting for 27%, and coal power generation accounting for 26%. The goal of the new version of the energy basic plan is to reduce the proportion of natural gas and coal power generation to 20% and 19% respectively by 2030. In 2020, Japan's coal power generation accounted for 27.6%.
The Japanese government announced in October 2020 that the country will achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. In April this year, the Japanese government stated that the country strives to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% in 2030 compared to 2013. According to data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, the energy industry such as power stations accounts for 37% of Japan’s current carbon dioxide emissions, far exceeding other industries.
