The UK-based climate and energy think tank "Ember" said on the 18th that the European Union's Solar Energy For Sale power generation in June and July hit a record high, accounting for 10% of the EU's total power generation during the same period.

In the report, Ember stated that the EU's solar power generation in June and July was close to 39 TWh (1 TWh is 1 billion kWh), which is nearly 3.6 times that of the same period in 2018. In 8 EU member states, including Spain and Germany, solar power generation has set new national records.

Germany has the most solar power generation, reaching 13.4 TWh, accounting for 17% of Germany's total power generation during the same period. Spain is the European Union country with the fastest growth in solar power generation over the same period in the past four years. Solar power generation has increased from 3.1 TWh in the same period in 2018 to 6.4 TWh, accounting for 16% of Spain's total power generation in the same period.

Reuters quoted Ember analyst Charles Moore as saying that the photovoltaic industry has "exciting green shoots, but the overall growth rate is not fast enough."

According to Ember’s report, coal power generation accounted for 14% of total power generation in the EU in June and July, which is still higher than solar power generation.

In response to climate change, the European Commission previously proposed to amend the renewable energy regulations to promote the development of green energy such as wind and solar energy. According to the report, the EU's solar power generation will increase by an average of 14 TWh in 2019 and 2020, and this year's increase is expected to be the same as the average of the previous two years. However, in order to achieve the expected goal of 2030, the annual solar power generation capacity will need to increase by about 30 TWh.

According to the EU's previous target, the proportion of renewable energy in total energy consumption should reach 40% by 2030. In 2019, this figure was nearly 19%.
