From the adoption of the Law on Supporting the Utilization of Renewable Energy in 2009 to the establishment of a green economy transition model based on renewable Solar For Electricity Home resources in 2013, Kazakhstan has listed the realization of stable energy supply and improvement of the ecological environment as two major government priorities. In the view of the Kazakhstan government, although fiscal revenue can be guaranteed by exporting oil, natural gas, uranium and other raw materials, maximizing the advantages of the new energy industry can not only avoid excessive dependence on natural resources, but is also the best way to achieve energy transformation.

The President of Kazakhstan Tokayev recently presided over a national power development conference to determine the focus of the next stage of renewable energy development, and raised the target for renewable energy power generation in 2030. At the same time, he emphasized that although he is not in a hurry to develop nuclear power, he will not "Late" in this field.

As the world’s 9th largest oil exporter, Kazakhstan’s oil reserves account for about 3% of the world’s total oil reserves. Although the oil and gas industry is the main source of its fiscal revenue, Kazakhstan has repeatedly reiterated the importance of economic diversification in recent years. It also intensified the energy transition.

Raise targets for clean power generation

"We have decided to update the 2030 renewable energy target, that is, by 2030, the proportion of renewable energy in the field of power generation will be raised from the previous 10% to 15%." Tokayev said. Kazakhstan News Agency reported that Kazakhstan set a renewable energy power generation target in 2013. The target is that 6% of its electricity will come from renewable energy by 2025, 10% of its electricity will come from renewable energy by 2030, and at least 50% by 2050. % Of electricity comes from renewable energy sources.

Taking into account the current development of the renewable energy industry in Kazakhstan, the government believes that the 2025 target is expected to be exceeded, so it has made a decision to raise the 2030 target. According to data from the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, of the 108 billion kWh of electricity generated in Kazakhstan last year, 3.24 billion kWh came from renewable energy sources, accounting for about 3%.

Currently, Kazakhstan has a total of 116 renewable energy power generation facilities, including 29 wind power stations, 44 photovoltaic power stations, 38 hydroelectric power stations, and 5 biomass power stations, with a total installed capacity of 1,685 MW. This year plans to launch 23 new projects with a total installed capacity of 381 MW. The goal is to increase renewable energy power generation to 3.5 billion kWh by the end of this year.
