According to the national power system operator, in 2020-2024, Bulgaria plans to add 700 megawatts of wind power, 1,600 megawatts of solar power generation capacity and 219 megawatts of biomass power generation capacity.

Bulgaria plans to install an additional 700 MW of wind farms, 1,600 MW of solar parks and 219 MW of biomass power plants between 2020 and 2024, public broadcaster BNR quoted the chief executive of the state-owned Electricity System Operator (ESO). In the words of official Angelin Tsachev. , as said on Sunday.

Bulgaria added 77 MW of PV capacity in 2020 and is expected to add 114 MW this year.

By the end of 2020, Bulgaria's cumulative renewable energy generation capacity is about 1,800 MW, accounting for one-fifth of the country's total capacity, of which photovoltaic power plants account for 1,100 MW, and wind power accounts for 700 MW.

According to a national strategic blueprint published on the parliament's website last year, Bulgaria plans to add an additional 2,645 megawatts of installed capacity through renewable energy sources, mainly photovoltaics, by the end of 2030, in line with the EU's green energy transition goals.

According to the plan, the share of energy from renewable sources in total final consumption in Bulgaria should reach 27.1% by 2030, compared with the EU target of 32%. In the same year, Bulgaria's share of renewable energy is expected to reach 30.3% in power generation, 42.6% in the heating and cooling sector and 14.2% in transport.
