Bangladesh: plans to install rooftop photovoltaic systems on public buildings
Recently, the Bangladesh government plans to pass a tender to install rooftop solar panel system for sale photovoltaic systems on buildings in eight regions of the country in three months.
Currently, the Bangladesh Government Bank is seeking help from the private sector to implement a tariff reduction scheme on all public buildings.
Under the plan, the country will be divided into eight regions, which will be tendered to solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies, and then the electricity they generate will be sold to government agencies.
A senior official at the Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA) said that because government agencies would occupy buildings and would benefit from cheap electricity without incurring the capital cost of installing solar roofs, low-cost loans would be provided by the agency.
SREDA is preparing a feasibility study for the proposal, and chairman Helal Uddin said that it has made progress in preparing tender documents and hopes to start the tender within three to four months.
According to concerns, Ezaz Al Qudrat A Mazid, founder and CEO of Solar EPC Development Ltd., a Dhaka-based consultancy, said that if the government can ensure bill payments by signing a tripartite agreement, there will be more local and foreign investment Participate in bidding.
