According to news on October 14th, Vietnam Zhongnan Group has launched a 450 MW solar power plant, which is the largest solar power plant in this Southeast Asian country. Vietnam is seeking to increase the proportion of solar panels electricity renewable energy while reducing its power structure to coal Dependence.

The private company said in a statement that the 14 trillion Vietnamese dong ($604 million) solar power plant is located in the central coastal province of Ninh Thuan and is connected to the country’s national grid through a 17-kilometer (10.6-mile) transmission line. , This line was also built by Zhongnan.

Faced with an imminent power shortage, Vietnam is developing renewable energy, as well as LNG power generation and coal-based projects, because hydropower is almost fully utilized and oil and natural gas production has reached its peak. The plan to build a nuclear power plant was cancelled in 2016.

Vietnam plans to increase the proportion of solar and wind energy in its electricity structure to 15%-20% by 2030, and increase their proportion from the current 10% to 25%-30% by 2045.

The company said that this solar power plant, along with its other solar and wind power generation projects, will help alleviate the country’s imminent power shortage and diversify its sources of power.

Nguyen Tam Tien, CEO of Zhongnan, said: “Vietnam has huge potential for solar and wind energy, and the country is on the right track to rapidly and effectively develop this potential.”

Zhongnan said that the company is also considering the development of LNG power generation projects, and pointed out that the company will first build a terminal in Ningshun to facilitate the import of LNG for future power plants in the region.

Vietnam is also building a batch of LNG power plants, the first batch of power plants will be put into use in 2023. This ambitious move may make liquefied natural gas the country's main source of energy.
