The Indian government’s goal is to install 100GW of solar energy by 2022. As of March 31, 2020, the country’s installed solar capacity is about 37 GW, and an additional 63 GW solar panels kits for sale price will need to be added in the next 30 months. Achieve that goal.
In 2015, the Indian government announced its ambitious goal to achieve 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, including 100 GW of solar energy, and 40 GW of solar energy from the roof.
According to data from Mercom Research Institute India, about 100 GW of solar energy targets, about 37 GW is already in operation, and another 37 GW of large-scale solar energy is in various stages of construction. Approximately 39 GW of large-scale solar projects have been tendered and are under auction.
Although the government is working hard to promote the growth of solar energy in the country, there are still many obstacles that hinder its development, including land acquisition, transmission and distribution infrastructure, the lack of a consistent national policy, the availability of funds, and the lack of power purchase by the distribution company (DISCOM) Willingness.
Commenting on the challenges facing the Indian solar industry, Sanjay Varghese, Executive Vice President of ReNew Power’s solar business, said: “Remaining issues, including DISCOM’s financial situation, are worrisome, which will continue to cause losses. DISCOM’s poor financial situation leads to power generators A large number of outstanding payments have been made, which affects its credit status. Other issues include the delayed issuance of compensation for safeguard tax and GST (goods and services tax), and the lack of clarity of the basic tariffs (BCD) announced in the budget, etc."
The government’s stimulus plan of Rs 900 crore (US$12.03 billion) issued to DISCOM to clear the power generators’ payables may change the rules of the game.
The government's goals include: small hydropower 5 GW, biomass 10 GW, wind power 60 GW, rooftop solar 40 GW and utility-scale 60 GW.
However, as of March 31, 2020, the total capacity has reached 89.05 GW, and the remaining 85.95 GW will need to be realized within the next 30 months. As of March 31, 2020, utility-scale solar installations were 32 GW, and 28 GW will be installed during the remaining period; the total installed capacity of the rooftop solar market is still 4.6 GW, reaching 40 GW by 2022 The target is far from the same; the total installed capacity of wind power is 37.7 GW, which means that 22 GW is still needed to be completed in the remaining 2 years. By 2022, the installation of small hydropower and biomass energy facilities can reach the targets of 5 GW and 10 GW.
