According to the national power system operator, Bulgaria plans to add 700 MW of wind power, 1600 MW of solar power generation capacity and 219 MW of biomass power generation capacity in 2020-2024.

Bulgaria plans to install another 700 megawatts of wind farms, 1,600 megawatts of solar parks and 219 megawatts of biomass power plants between 2020 and 2024. Public radio station BNR quotes the chief executive of the state-owned power system operator (ESO) Said the officer Angelin Tsachev. , As said on Sunday.

In 2020, Bulgaria will add 77 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity, and it is expected to increase by 114 megawatts this year.

As of the end of 2020, Bulgaria’s cumulative renewable energy power generation capacity is about 1,800 MW, accounting for one-fifth of the country’s total capacity, of which photovoltaic power plants account for 1,100 MW and wind power accounts for 700 MW.

According to the national strategic blueprint published on the parliament website last year, Bulgaria plans to increase the installed capacity of 2,645 megawatts through renewable energy (mainly photovoltaic power plants) by the end of 2030, which is in line with the EU's green energy transition goals.

According to the plan, by 2030, the proportion of energy from renewable energy in Bulgaria’s final total consumption should reach 27.1%, while the EU’s target is 32%. In the same year, Bulgaria’s share of renewable energy is expected to reach 30.3% in power generation, 42.6% in the heating and cooling sectors, and 14.2% in transportation.
