The power plant is estimated to generate 1.7 million kWh of electricity annually and is expected to cover about 15% of the electricity demand of the company’s nearby facilities.

Evides Waterbedrijf said it will start evaluating the impact of the 4,787 photovoltaic
off grid solar panel kits system price modules used at the plant sometime next year, and will focus on analyzing the growth of algae, the spread of bacteria in bird droppings, reducing the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the water and wind.

The company said: "It is essential that the reservoir maintain good water quality."

The company also added that it ma ild more floating solar power plants on three other reservoirs, including the 350-hectare Biesbosch reservoir. The company estimates that deploying solar panels on 30% of the water it manages can meet all of its power needs.

Evides Waterbedrijf is part of the National Floating Solar Consortium-an initiative launched by Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch General Directorate for Public Works and Water Management. The Dutch Applied Water Research Foundation (STOWA) is also part of the consortium, which is jointly supervised by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment and the Solar Energy Application Community (SEAC).

The Netherlands has huge potential for floating photovoltaic power generation because it has approximately 52,000 hectares of shallow inland water surface available.

In March 2017, Rijkswaterstaat, a subsidiary of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, announced that it plans to use its controlled water surface and land for the installation of renewable energy power plants.
